The wooden notebooks are the result of a four-handed collaboration between my woodworking shop and Anaïs' bindery.

I prepare the wooden covers in the workshop: the veneer is selected, prepared, and then glued under an old frame press. Anaïs then completes the binding part, with a strong and traditional hand-sewn pamphlet stitch.

This collaboration thus brings together two artisanal crafts around a single object: woodworking and bookbinding.

Ultimately, I want to go even further by returning to a traditional way of working in cabinetmaking: working directly with a logger or felling professional, having the logs sawn into planks by a sawmill, and then letting the wood dry for several years before working with it. The goal is to gradually build up a rotation of wood in the workshop, with planks bought, sawn, and left to dry several years before use. However, this requires sufficient storage space to accommodate and properly dry these volumes of wood, which is not yet possible for me at the moment.

Yes. The wooden postcards measure 100 x 150 mm and are designed to be written on, stamped and sent by post with the same postage as a classic paper postcard.

They can also, of course, be given in person or kept as a small decorative item.

A5 notebooks contain 80 pages of 90 gsm pH-neutral white paper. This paper is suitable for writing, drawing, and everyday note-taking.

The neutral pH also ensures better preservation of the paper over time, limiting yellowing and premature aging.

And if you later wish to use your notebook for another purpose, its interior can be replaced with different paper, including watercolor paper.

You can write directly on the wood with a ballpoint pen, without needing to add a sheet of paper or a label.

However, I recommend adding an envelope for mailing: it's so pretty it could get lost on the way.

Then, simply write your message and the recipient's address, and stamp the card before sending it.

Yes, and that's precisely one of the special features of these wooden-covered notebooks. Once all the pages are used up, the cover is not meant to be thrown away: it can be kept and house a new interior.

Simply contact Anaïs from Verso Papeterie at versopapeterie@gmail.com, the bookbinder, who can create a new notebook while keeping your wooden cover. You can then choose the paper weight as well as the color of the linen thread.

You can also take the opportunity to evolve the use of your notebook by choosing, for example, paper suitable for drawing or watercolor, or by transforming it into a planner, travel journal, recipe book, or project notebook. The wooden cover is thus designed to accompany you far beyond the first notebook, and even throughout an entire lifetime, simply by changing its interior according to your needs and desires.

The wooden postcards are made of maple and produced in the Jura region. The illustrations are created in collaboration with Atelier Palmito.

Unlike the notebooks and my other wooden creations, the postcards are not made in my workshop. I chose to work with partners to offer this item while maintaining French manufacturing.

This is a deliberate choice. For a notebook cover, I use thin plywood covered with real wood veneer, rather than a thin solid wood board.

Solid wood remains a living material that naturally reacts to variations in humidity and temperature. On a piece as thin and flat as a cover, it could warp, deform, or crack over time. The plywood structure, made up of several layers of wood with crossed grains, provides much greater dimensional stability and limits these movements.

The veneer then allows you to rediscover on the surface everything that makes real wood interesting: its grain, its color, and its natural nuances. The cover thus remains thin, light, and above all stable enough to accompany the notebook for many years.

This choice therefore combines the stability of plywood with the character of real wood, with a construction particularly suited to notebook use.

Yes. The wooden cover can be personalized by engraving according to the available space: first name, initials, date, a few words, or a small design.

If you would like a personalized wooden notebook, please contact me before placing your order, indicating the model and the desired personalization. I will be able to confirm its feasibility and the different possibilities. This personalization is available from March to the end of October.

The covers are made from old wood veneers from the dormant stock of a cabinetmaker in Bordeaux, located in the Chartrons district.

These veneers, some of which have been stored for many years, thus find a new purpose through the notebooks. Each sheet has its own nuances and grain, which naturally makes each cover unique.

This is another way to repurpose existing materials and to perpetuate woods from the traditional know-how of cabinetmaking.
